Merapi's Disaster Monitoring System

Tell us the story of your project: 

Merapi is one of the most activated volcano in the world with the last explusive eruption in 2010. There was many big impact around the Merap and for about 270 died because of the 2010 eruption. It was so dangerous for inhabitant because the eruption cycle of Merapi in 2-5 years and 5-7 years. It has been seven years since the last eruption and there was no big activity of Merapi right now. In the other, the recent active crater is widely opened to the southeast area and directly heading to a dense resident village such as Kinahrejo and Kepuharjo (in the radius of 5 kilometers from crater). As we know in 2010, the keyman or keeper of Merapi, Mr. Maridjan, died after the pyroclastic flows passed his house in the first time because the morphology changes near the crater.
        Using the interview’s method, we knew the condition of inhabitant in Kinahrejo, the closest village from crater, they still afraid because of the last eruption that suddenly happened and passed the Kinahrejo. 
        Not only because of the pyroclastic flows, but also because of the lahar flows, the another hazard after the eruption happened. Lahar flows carried the large clumps of soil and the materials with the rain as a main cause. It can be as a trigger of people to die.
        Either the pyroclastic or lahar flows, we should make the inhabitant to warn of the hazardous. This research have a purpose to let the people know the activity of Merapi in real time an easy with their smartphone. So, they shouldn’t wait the alarm to estimating the time of Merapi’s eruption and the goal of this research is an application with the evacuation path in the maps that could help people to escape from dangerous area.

The research goal is to make an application that contain of Merapi's activity before the eruption, early warning system of pyroclastic and Lahar flows, and evacuation path and connecting with smartphone (IoT) to make an easy access in real time.
Aha! moment: 
This is a big project because we couldn't take the equipment in Merapi, so, we should make a prototype. Another, we need more support of the goverment to develop our research and it will be a continuation research, a long research.
Uh-oh! moment: 
When we had the idea, we didn't know if it was a difficult research. Also we need a more person who can do the IoT and make the application. That's a big problem for our research. Also we should use many tools such as soil and gas temperature sensor, tiltmeter, earthquake sensor, pendulum, weater sensor, wifi module, genuino, and others.
